Volunteering – Guide Dogs

        Puppy Raiser
Welcome a guide dog puppy into your home for around 12-14 months and help it develop the confidence, social skills and behaviours                 needed for its future role. This includes introducing the puppy to a variety of everyday environments and experiences, such as shops,                 cafés, public transport and community settings, while providing a loving and supportive home.

Puppy Raising Split Role
This role has been designed to make puppy raising more flexible for those who cannot commit to the full 12-14 month Puppy Raiser journey. Volunteers can support a puppy for approximately six months, either during the early stages of development from around 8-12 weeks to 6 months old, or during the later stages from around 6 months through to 12-14 months old. By sharing the puppy’s journey, volunteers still play a vital role in preparing a future guide dog. Find out more about Puppy Raising here:

Respite Fosterer
Provide a temporary home for dogs awaiting rehoming through Guide Dogs. Respite Fosterers offer stability, companionship, exercise and routine while dogs wait to be matched with their permanent home. The skills developed through a policing career can make retired officers particularly well suited to supporting dogs through this important transition period.

Full training, ongoing support and all dog-related expenses are provided for these roles.

I’d be grateful if you could share these opportunities with your members. If anyone would like more information, they are very welcome to get in touch with me directly.
