Lanarkshire Branch AGM 2018

Standard

Our Annual General Meeting took place on Monday, 1 October 2018, 7 pm at Hamilton Caledonian Bowling Club. There was a good attendance with 57 members taking the opportunity to come along and 77 submitting their apologies.

All attendees were presented with a free specially commissioned embossed mug – everybody loves a freebie. Tom Cairns stood down from the Committee.  Ellen congratulated Tom on his 25 years of service on the Committee of the Lanarkshire Branch and made a presentation to him.

David Gracie was appointed to the committee. (Far right in Committee Photo)

There were two further presentations – one for the oldest member and one for the youngest member attending the meeting.  These were won by Bert Thomson, aged 89 years and Alan Gibson, aged 56 years respectively.

There was the usual great atmosphere in the venue with many acquaintances being renewed and friendships re-established. From the committee perspective, it was great to be able to gauge the membership support and to get future actions approved, the branch is vibrant and long may it continue – thank-you to all the attendees and all those members who have supported the events and functions during the past year.

Remember to encourage any non-members to sign up – you know it makes sense.

Donations to Charities

The Committee had agreed to increase the charitable donation to £1500 to local charities which had helped and supported members over the years, but to keep the individual amount to £500 and to donate to three charities instead of two.  The nominated charities were Lanarkshire Cancer Care Trust, website: https://www.lanarkshirecancercaretrust.org/, MacMillan Nurses, website: https://www.macmillan.org.uk/ and Marie Curie Cancer Care, website: https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/.  This was supported by the members.
