OPEN INVITATION
STRATHCLYDE/GLASGOW MOUNTIES REUNION
Most of those who served in the Strathclyde Mounted Branch will know me as Mary Glen, for those who don’t, I was a Salkeld Street Mountie between 1979 and 2006.
As the Mounted Branch is no longer based in Glasgow my intention, for old time sake, is to organise a gathering of former Salkeld and Bell Street Mounties sometime in early 2010. With a view to keeping the cost down, it would be my intention to stage the reunion at the SPRA’s Lochinch Social Club with preliminary estimates suggesting that this will not cost any more than £20 each.
In order to enable me to gauge interest and to get this first reunion off the ground, I require to have some idea of the number that would attend If you are interested please either contact me by email at mary.doll@virgin.net or phone/text me on 07900324152.
If you know of any Mountie who worked in Salkeld or Bell Street and who would be interested in coming to the reunion please pass on this open invitation to them and let me know who they are – I don’t want to miss anyone.
Policeman-Poet of Ayrshire
I have just produced, after 3 years of research, a book entitled:
Discovering
Matthew Anderson
Policeman-Poet of Ayrshire
All funds raised from the successful sale of this book will benefit:
The Retired Police Officers Association Scotland - Ayrshire Branch
The book is available from the undersigned. I have attached word document giving brief details CLICK HERE giving brief details. Since it arrived from the printer on Monday afternoon last, the book has already sold almost 100 copies. As a self publisher, I need the assistance of as many folk as possible to tell others about this publication and encourage them to purchase a copy direct from the author. All of my previous books have benefited a number of different groups and organisations. I hope, with the assistance of RPOA Ayrshire, that this book will be similarly successful.
I would ask you, having reviewed this book, to commend it to Ayrshire Branch members and circulate this information widely. I have already had very positive feedback about this book. The book costs £12 by post or £10 if uplifted from Donald Reid.
Thank you for your kind assistance.
Yours sincerely
Donald L Reid

GLASGOW POLICE MUSEUM
The Glasgow Branch of the RPOA(S) would like to inform all members of the RPOA(S) of the following statement issued by the Glasgow Police Heritage Society (GPHS) on 16th November2008.
“The GPHS has announced the closure of the Glasgow Police Museum at 68 St Andrews Square Glasgow with effect from 6th December 2008. This situation has arisen due to Glasgow District Council wishing to close the building following the closure of Glasgow District Court Number One. Every effort has been made by the GPHS to find alternative accommodation but there is a likelihood that the museum artefacts and equipment may have to go into storage until a suitable venue is found.”
Further information can be obtained from the GPHS Chairman, Alastair Dinsmor at:curator@policemuseum.org.uk
