Brownsword are a long established provider of motor insurance investigation services to many major insurers across the UK and our field based enquiries are conducted on our behalf by an extensive field force who work for us on a self employed basis. The majority of these individuals are from a Police background, as this allows them to continue to utilise the unrivalled skill base which they have built up over many years.
The type of enquiries which our field force undertake includes interviewing drivers / witnesses / police officers etc in relation to road traffic accidents, preparing evidence based statements and the production of locus reports (including a sketch plan & photographs of where an incident has occurred)>
Due to continuing growth we are now looking to strengthen our coverage in key areas of Scotland, including Aberdeen, Inverness & Dundee.
We are particularly interested in hearing from any of your members who come from a CID background, as this is the experience preferred by our Dedicated Fraud Unit.

Ravenstone UK LLP Claims Consultants
Field Agents - U.K.
A fantastic opportunity has arisen which will supplement the current investigation work we undertake for the insurance industry and consequently further field agents are needed to ensure tight service level agreements are maintained.
The new opportunity is likely to be quick turnaround work with several calls per day to Insured’s and Driver’s to briefly discuss the accident and obtain further information. We would envisage any visit to be no more than 20 minutes per case. A brief covering report and additional information would then have to be sent to our Head Office overnight via e-mail and internet.
The use of a car, telephone and computer literacy and internet access are essential. Please note this exciting opportunity would be in addition to our current work levels.
If you are interested in working for us, even in a part-time capacity, then contact matt.dennison@ravenstone.co.uk for further information.

INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Scottish Police College
The Scottish Police College is approached on a regular basis by Government departments and police forces both here and abroad to assist them in training and developing their staff or to carry out strategic level reviews. Over recent years the demand has reached such a level that the College introduced a post that focuses purely on such international development work.
These projects are normally resourced from a data base of retired officers who are referred to as 'associates'. These individuals generally have a background in training or have skills in a particular area of policing and have normally worked in some sort of management position. The projects we deliver range from delivering bespoke training at the College to travelling overseas to carry out reviews of foreign police services. Projects both at home and abroad can last anywhere between one and six weeks, dependant on the mission being undertaken.
The increase in demand for projects has reached such a level that it has become necessary to increase the size of the associate data base. We now require to identify officers who have retired over the period of the past year or are just about to retire from the service. They should be, enthusiastic, willing to travel overseas, capable of working in a challenging environment and be part of a close knit team that can represent the Scottish Police Service. Remuneration rates are agreed prior to each project but in general the work is considered to be well paid.
I would be grateful if you could circulate this information to your members including those who have, or are just about to retire. Any enquiries should be directed to myself at the Scottish Police College at the addresses detailed below. It would be beneficial if those who wish to contact me for an informal discussion could have a brief CV of their career to hand.
I think that it is only fair to point out that there is no guarantee that individuals will be guaranteed work. Demand, along with the particular skills of individuals involved will determine who is selected to undertake missions.

Volunteer Roles at GUIDE DOGS
'Guide Dogs' has been empowering blind and partially sighted people to get around independently for more than 75 years through the Guide Dog Service. Would you be interested in:
Puppy Walking - Volunteers take a pup into their homes for approximately a year and help familiarise it with everyday sights and sounds, teaching basic commands and preparing it for Guide dog Training School. Puppy walkers need to be at home most of the day and have a secure garden.
Driving - volunteers provide a crucial service across the country by transporting owners, dogs, puppies or equipment
If you would like further information on these or any other roles within the organisation please contact the National Volunteering Office (0845 371 7771) or volunteer@guidedogs.org.uk
Admin Note: I know a woman who has been a 'Puppy Walker' for years and finds it very 'rewarding' in a non-financial way. SMR
Volunteers Required - SIMULATED PATIENT/Simulated Client PROGRAMME
EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY (and other Scottish Universities)
Medical Students need to learn how to interact with patients from an early stage in their training. The best way to attain these skills and gain experience in dealing with patients is to role-play the encounter in a relaxed, safe and non-threatening atmosphere. To facilitate this we require members of the public to simulate patients.

If you are interested, it is worth checking with the Medical School in your area to see if they are operating a Simulated Patient Programme.
Admin Note: This Programme has been running 10 years at Edinburgh University. I have attended teaching sessions for 3rd year students in medical, psychiatric and vet fields in Edinburgh and the Bush Estate and 3rd year exams with Med Students. It is very similar to role playing in police training exercises -certainly worthwhile SMR
