CENTRAL SCOTLAND POLICE

CENTRAL SCOTLAND POLICE is Scotland's second smallest Police Force and covers an area from West Lothian, Bo'ness to its furthest point north, Tyndrum and Crianlarach. From the east it stretches from the small towns that nestle below the Ochill Hills, Dollar, Tillicoultry, Alva and Menstrie and to the west, Drymen, Balfron and numerous small towns and villages on the banks of Loch Lomond and below Ben Lomond. The main industrial towns in the Central Scotland Belt are Grangemouth with its massive refinery and Falkirk. Stirling is the tourist city steeped in history and where two famous battles were fought in Scotland. The Battle of Bannockburn in 1314 and the Battle of Stirling Bridge. These battles changed the course of history in Scotland.
The Central Scotland police area is a beautiful part of Scotland to visit as it is diverse in many activities and ventures, from hill/mountain climbing to skiing on Loch lomond. Visiting Stirling Castle, Wallace's Monument, the Wheel on the Forth and Clyde Canal near Falkirk. There is plenty accommodation for visitors in the central Scotland area, from 3.4 and 5 Star Hotels to B&B, from self catering to the use of Stirling University in the summer break, including the use of all its facilities. So come to the Central Belt, enjoy yourself with your family and have some fun.

PRESENTATION LUNCH

On 25 May 2008, a presentation lunch was held at Police H.Q, Stirling, for the purpose of recognising the long service of our retired members over 80 years of age. Although we have 33 members over 80 years of age, many were prevented from attending for reasons of health, etc, but we were delighted that 10 of our older members managed to come along, and, following an enjoyable lunch, they were each presented with framed certificates by Chief Constable Andrew Cameron. The afternoon was a fantastic success and thoroughly worthwhile !

R.P.O.A.S. - CENTRAL BRANCH

Central Branch currently has 249 members, 33 of whom are over 80 years of age.

In February, 2008, members had a trip down memory lane with old colleagues at an impromptu fish and chip night in Bridge of Allan.

In March, 2008, members met up for a meal then spent an evening visiting the new Contact Service Centre within Police Headquarters, Stirling. We were there at the invitation of Chief Inspector Alan Stewart and were most impressed with the new technology available for the modern police officer on the beat.

In April, 2008, a small group of Rangers fans did the Ibrox Stadium Tour and took numerous photographs. One of our members is related to former Rangers manager, Bill Struth, so that was a particularly significant visit for her.

Also in April we enjoyed the hospitality of T/Superintendent Robbie McGregor who welcomed members to the new Falkirk Police Office for a tour and buffet. Many members had spent some of their police service in Falkirk Division. It was wonderful to include in our group Sandy Govan who is 91 years young and found the experience fascinating when he compared it to his time in the force, and Alasdair Maciver who was the Chief Superintendent at Falkirk when he retired in 1985. For all of us the changes were amazing, even in the past decade.

These visits have taken place so far this year. Other events which are in the progress of being planned are:

Visits to the museum of flight at East Fortune, and the Scottish Police College

Visit to Falkirk Police Office (for those who were unable to attend the last visit)

Presentation of certificates to life members

The above events and many more are open to all members and anyone interested in attending please contact the secretary Bill Mclaughlin.

We are indebted to our social convenor Lesley Struth for all her hard work in organising the above.

If you have any other suggestions please let us know.
