L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Chief Superintendent Cuthbert (Bert) Sutton (83) who passed away on 30th January.
He is survived by his wife Nita and son David.
Bert joined Edinburgh City Police in 1951 and rose through the ranks to Chief Superintendent before retiring in 1977.
At Bert's own request, his funeral will be held privately.

L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Inspector 1291 Ben Clunie (68) who passed away on 19 January.
He is survived by his daughter Pamela.
Following cadet service with British Transport Police, Ben joined Fife Constabulary in 1963, before transferring to ECP in March 1969, based at Braid Place and then to Personnel. Promoted to sergeant in 1976, he was seconded to the College. He returned to Personnel, then to Gayfield on his promotion to Inspector in 1985 and retired in 1996.
Lanarkshire Branch regret to inform you that retired Sergeant Charles Scott (81) died within Strathcairn Hospice on Sunday 15th January 2012, after a short illness.
Charlie served with Coatbridge Burgh Police, Lanarkshire Constabulary and finally with Strathclyde Police during which time he was stationed at Coatbridge, Stepps and finally Cumbernauld. He retired on the 1st November 1982. He is survived by his wife Dorothy and family.
Ayrshire Branch regret to inform you that James Clark (61) died at his home in Darvel on Monday 16 January, after a long illness. James began his police career in the City of Glasgow Police and latterly served in Strathclyde Police Traffic Department at Glasgow, Ayr and Kilmarnock before retiring in 2002.
He is survived by his wife Patricia, 3 sons and a daughter.
Ayrshire Branch regret to inform you that Gordon Irving (60), died at his home in Kilmarnock on Saturday 14 January, after a long illness. Gordon began his police career as a cadet and served in Ayrshire and Strathclyde Police, in uniform, CID and Special Branch, retiring in 2001 as head of Special Branch. He is survived by his wife Rena and their daughters Gillian and Lauren.
L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of Retired PC44B and 54HQ James Haldane Blain (72) affectionally known within the service as Black Jasper, who passed away at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on 13th January 2012.
He is survived by his wife Elma,daughter Caroline and son Jim
Jim served at Gayfield Police Station and at FHQ prior to his retirement
His funeral will be held at Seafield Crematorium on Monday 23rd January 2012 at 11.00am to which all friends and past colleagues would be welcome.
Tayside Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Constable Hilda Bury, who died on 31st Decenber aged 92. Hilda joined Dundee City Police in 1946 and retired in 1974 when she joined the Fiscals Service. She was awarded the BEM before she retired.
She resided in the Monifieth area latterly.
L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Inspector 2655 David Wilson (50) who died suddenly on the 27 December.
He is survived by his wife Lynne and son Martin.
Following cadet service in Edinburgh, Dave joined Lothian & Borders in 1979, working initially in the old West End. He then transferred to the Traffic Department (Roads Policing) where he served most of his service apart from a year at Craigmillar as uniform Sergeant.
Promoted to Sergeant in 1991 and Inspector in 2009, Dave worked virtually all of the sections within Traffic, including motor cycles, patrol, Traffic Management, Hawick, Dalkeith and Livingston, before his retirement in April of this year.
Ayrshire Branch regret to inform you of the death of former Constable Derek Connolly (59), died on Sunday 18 December. Derek who lived in Troon, joined the City of Glasgow Police and served later in Strathclyde Police, Kilmarnock before retiring in 1990.
Ayrshire Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Constable, Edward Shannon, who died at his home in Mossblown on 23rd November, his 76 birthday. Eddie served in Ayrshire and Strathclyde, in Troon, New Cumnock, Mossblown, Ayr and was probably best remembered as a dog handler. He retired from the Force in 1986. He is survived by his wife Sheila, daughter Elaine, grandchildren and great grandchildren. (notified 22/12)
Tayside Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired D/Superintendent Jack Doogan (77), who died suddenly but peacefully at Ninewells Hospital on Sunday, 18 December.
Mr Doogan served as a police officer from 1959 until his retirement in 1990 and is survived by his sons, Gordon and Steve.
Ayrshire Branch regret to inform you of the death of John Milne (80) who died suddenly at his home in Newmilns on 19th December. John served at Auchinleck, Cumnock, Ayr, Traffic Department, Darvel, Task Force and in the bar at Kilmarnock Police Office before retiring in 1988. He is survived by his wife Sheila and their son and daughter.
L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired PS William (Bill) Caldwell (91) who passed away on10th December.
He is survived by his children Ian, Jean and Roger.
Following service in the RAF, Bill joined Midlothian Constabulary in 1946 and I understand that he served a good length of his service in the Calders area before being promoted Sergeant and transferred to Peebles where he served until his retirement in 1975.
North East Branch regret to inform you of the death of William (Doug) LOW died Peacefully, at Woodend Hospital, on Thursday, December 8, 2011, Doug, aged 89 years (formerly of Grampian Police and Burma Star Veteran). Beloved husband of Flo, much loved dad of Brenda, brother of Mary and a friend to many.
A Royal Signals man from March 1939 to April 1946, Doug joined Aberdeenshire Constabulary in June that year, went through the whole of SNECC and retired from Grampian in in September 1975.
L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of former Leith officer Peter Watt who transferred from ECP to Lanarkshire in the mid 60s. He died on 2nd December. He was 81 years old and had suffered from ill health for some time. He retired from Strathclyde Police in 1982 holding the rank of Inspector. Peter was a well known member of the ECP rugby section and an enthusiastic runner/athlete.
L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired PC Gordon Emslie (77) who passed away on 28 November, at Muirton House Nursing Home, Blairgowrie.
His wife Pat pre-deceased Gordon.

North East Branch regret to inform you of the death of George Still (Newtonhill) Peacefully, at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, on Tuesday, November 22, 2011, George, aged 75 years (former Grampian Police Sergeant and Postmaster at Newtonhill), beloved husband of Betty, much loved dad of Keith & Valerie, Ian & Amanda and Andrew & Debbie..
George joined Aberdeen City Police on 10 April 1957 and served through Grampian retiring as Sergeant in August 1987. George's photograph is featured in Hamish Irvine's book, 'The Diced Cap' between pages 32 and 33, lower right.
Ayrshire Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Inspector Dennis Ivison who died aged 77 at Ayr Hospital on Saturday 15/10/11.
Dennis started his career with Ayr Burgh Police and retired as an Inspector in Strathclyde Police, Traffic Department on 17/04/85.
He is survived by his wife Ellen and son Scott.
Tayside Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired police officer Joseph (Joe) McInally (56) on Tuesday 15th November. Joe resided in Birkhill and retired from the Force in 2002.
Survived by his daughter Susan.
Ayrshire Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired PC Leslie Marsh(64)in Ayr Hospital on 14th November, following a long illness.
He is survived by his wife Marion and three daughters.
Leslie served in Ayrshire Constabulary and Strathclyde Police, in the Irvine, Kilwinning and West Kilbride areas before retiring in 1997.

He is survived by his wife Claire
Grant worked at Cumnock, Ayr, Special Branch, Glasgow, Irvine and was both in uniform and CID before retiring in 2000.
Lothian & Borders Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired PC Albert (Bert) Britton (84) who died suddenly on the 6 November, within the Western General Hospital.
He is survived by his wife Mary and son John.
Bert worked most of his service from the old Braid Place Station in Edinburgh. He retired in 1977.
North East Branch regret to inform you of the death of Ian M. GILLIES (Forres) (86) who died peacefully at Dr. Grays Hospital, Elgin, on Friday, November 11, 2011. Devoted husband to Phyllis Watt, a much loved dad to Ann, dearly loved granda to Derek and Mairi.
Initially from Portree he joined Moray and Nairn Constabulary after his Navy war service in 1947, serving in the Elgin area. His service continued through SNECC into Grampian retiring from Elgin as Inspector in 1978.
Fife Branch regret to inform you of the death of David 'Bootsie' Meldrum (77) on 3rd November, within Leys Park Care Home, Dunfermline.
Bootsie was well known to many of you and was one of life's characters. He retired in 1988.
He is survived by his wife Gladys and family.
Glasgow Branch regret to inform you of the death on 29th October 2011 of Hugh McKirdy.
Hugh, or Big Hughie as he was known to his colleagues, was 65 years of age and retired in 2000 having served most of his career in the Mounted Branch.
North East Branch regret to inform you of the death of Alexander (Sandy) G. HENDERSON (Banff) who died suddenly on Saturday, October 29, 2011, aged 86 years.
Beloved husband of Eleaner Weir (Elma), dearest dad of Jennifer and Sandra.
Sandy joined Banffshire in 1947, and retired from SNECC in 1974.
L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired DI Stuart King (61) who passed away on 28 October.
He is survived by his wife Morag and son Alan.
Stuart joined Edinburgh City Police in 1969, working the old A Division, including a good spell at Craigmillar, before transferring to CID in 1976. Promoted to DS in 1984, he worked in various Divisions and had spells in the Scottish Crime Squad and Drugs Squad, from where he retired as DI in 1998.
L & B Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired PS Kenny Killin (77) who passed away on the 28 October. He is survived by his wife Helen and daughters Ruth and Katherine. Joining the Royal Navy as boy sailor at 15, Kenny became a telegraphist, before joining Edinburgh City Police, stationed at Leith. Promoted to PS and transferred to the West End, he spent a good number of years at Wester Hailes, before moving to Court & Records and retiring in 1989.
D&G Branch regret to inform you of the death of former Branch Secretary and Treasurer Robert Caldwell (aged 86) who died on the 28th October.
Bob has been a fine servant of the Branch for over 34 years and also a very keen bowler, known by many throughout the Association and will be sadly missed by all.
Glasgow Branch regret to inform you of the death on 19 October 2011 of Glasgow Branch member Edward (Eddie) MURPHY. Eddie, who was 77 years of age, retired in 1984 having served in Maryhill and latterly "H" (Courts). He is survived by his wife.
H&I Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Sergeant Angus MacLeod (aged 83) who died 29th September at the Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway.
Angus was a former member of Ross & Cromarty, Ross & Sutherland and Northern Constabularies.
He served at Cromarty, Ullapool, Conon Bridge and latterly at Stornoway.
He is survived by his three daughters.
Central Branch regret to inform you of the death of Andrew (Andy) Marshall, 63 years, on 26 October 2011. Andy joined Stirling and Clackmannan Police in the '60's and transferred to Strathclyde Police at regionalisation in 1975 where he served in the Traffic Department, retiring in 1995. Andy joined Central Branch and participated regularly in Branch social visits where he enjoyed renewing old acquaintances from his original service in Stirlingshire.
The sympathy of the Branch has been conveyed to Andy's widow, Joyce, and the family
Central Branch regret to inform you of the death of retired Chief Inspector William Wisdom, 73 years, on 26 October 2011. Willie was well known in bowling circles.
